Finally, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and around this time every year we start thinking about what we want to do with that special someone for Valentine’s Day. I remember thirty-six years ago when my boyfriend, now my husband, and I started dating, Valentine’s Day was as simple as a single rose and the movies. Occasionally, depending on what our financial situation was at the time, there might be dinner and some chocolate. The memory would be captured in a single photograph or two, if we remembered to buy a disposable Kodak camera from the pharmacy. Today in the age of cell phones and social media, Valentine’s Day has become a big production filled with public displays of love on full display for the whole world to see. But what about those of us who still desire a simple romantic ordinary day? Well, here are five suggestions on how to show “ordinary love” on Valentine’s Day and every day.
- Handwritten Love Coupons

Handwritten coupons are a very practical and inexpensive way of connecting with your significant other, all while guaranteeing that you’re giving them exactly what it is they really want or need. Be as creative and intimate as you wish and dare to be bold. Offer favors ranging from a simple back rub to a night of “Never No”…if you know what I mean…wink…wink! If you wish, coupons could be non-expirable allowing favors to be “cashed in” long after Valentine’s Day is over.
2. Night of Karaoke

Now, I don’t know about you, but I love me some karaoke. I enjoy singing with friends and give me a microphone and I’ll sing alone, and I don’t need a special occasion. If you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with other couples, this would make for a fun night and if it’s with just your partner even better. Spice it up, introduce some role play into your performance, take it up a notch and bring out some costumes. If you should get tired of singing, just enjoy listening to some music together and you could even break out those dancing shoes if there’s still energy left in you!
3. Leave Love Notes:

Now guys let me tell you, there is no woman who doesn’t love a handwritten, heartfelt love note from her man. Just the right words expressed at the right time and placed in the right place, and you can drive any woman or girl, right out of her mind. Leave notes under her pillow on the bathroom mirror or in her purse, doesn’t matter where, as long as she will find them. Remember, thoughtful, intimate and heartfelt is the key!
4. Scavenger Hunt

Now this game isn’t for the faint of heart or on second thought, maybe it could be. So let me set the mood, it’s Valentine’s Day and you’re alone with your spouse or lover and you’ve hidden a few things for them to find. The clues and the items being found will set the stage for what is about to unfold later. If you’re one of those conservative couples maybe you’ll hide a bottle of whipped cream, some candles and some bath salts. But if you like to walk a little on the wild side then maybe there’s a mask and a wh.… do I need to say more? You’re getting the picture, right?
5. Dinner for Two

Of course, this one never grows old. It’s the one I go to myself on most special occasions. You can enjoy a romantic night of dinner for two at your favorite restaurant or you can both stay in and make a sexy romantic meal together. Food and cooking can very sensual, take my word for it. Think about all the mixing, stirring and tasting involved in cooking good food. Set the tone with some of your favorite music in the background.

So have fun with your Valentine’s Day ideas, you can try one or a combination of a few. Maybe you can also share some of your ideas on how to have a romantic but ordinary day on Valentine’s Day.

We are probably the least romantic couple in the world as we tend to avoid all the valentine couple crowds at the restaurants. However, there are a few ideas you’ve listed my husband will thank you for 😋

These are great ideas. Although I admit that I consider getting flowers the most romantic of all. It’s simple and time efficient lol. 😄

This post is so SWEET and made me feel happy! Valentine’s Day is super special for us because it is my husband’s birthday. It’s difficult to keep the two separate so I decided early in our relationship that February 14th is all about his birth. Dinner for 2 is my celebration of choice and has not failed me in our 33 years of marriage! That said, he always showers me with beautiful red roses! Got to love him!

Dinner for two is the best option for me. Karaoke will lead to divorce and I’ll get in trouble if I make coupons instead of spend money. 😆🥂

I still carry in my wallet a note my husband wrote to me just after we started dating. We are having a dinner for two, with some dancing in the living room.
