In April of 2015, the school my sons attended took a senior trip to South Africa. One of our stops was the Table Mountain located in Cape Town. At an age of over 280 million years old, it is one of the oldest mountains in the world and stands at a height of 3,563 feet above sea level. In November 2011 Table Mountain was recognized as one of the seven wonders of the world.
This photograph was taken from a cable car as we ascended to the top of the mountain. Luckily it was a beautiful day, so we got a clear view of Cape Town and the world beyond below. Later in the trip, our kids came face with some of the history and sights of South Africa and its impact on all our lives, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Beautiful!

I was just talking to a friend from South Africa the other day and was telling him how I’ve always wanted to visit. South Africa has a complicated history and has its issues till today, but there is still a lot of historic information you can learn there. It’s very worth visiting. Glad you got to experience South Africa and learn about its history. Something I think everyone should do at some point.

Yeah, that history is something that should be taught in schools. My sons and most other kids in this country had been learning about our history since preschool, this trip was primarily to add context along with a little enjoyment.

That’s great. I didn’t learn much about South Africa growing up and only learnt about its history as an adult.

Wow, that is so surprising seeing that you live on the same continent! You should go visit then especially the Apartheid Museum.

Yeah, but I studied the British education system so it was mostly just European history. Luckily many African history courses were offered at my university and I took most of them. I really want to go there one day.
